Our in-ground aquatic therapy pool, equipped with an underwater treadmill, allows for utilization of buoyancy, water resistance, and hydrostatic pressure to build strength, restore joint mobility, and reduce edema. Aquatic therapy significantly reduces weight bearing forces through the spine & lower extremities and will allow patients to regain function without the pain sometimes associated with exercise on land. In addition, patients can start the rehabilitation process much faster in water versus land when there are factors such as weight-bearing restrictions, mobility limitations, and acute pain. Individuals with a variety of disabilities and orthopedic conditions can benefit from participation in aquatic therapy, including people with back problems, knee injuries, ankle injuries, and other orthopaedic injuries.
While the pool can be used as a tool in most rehabilitation programs, it is important to speak with your physician to see if aquatic therapy is right for you. The heat of the pool can be problematic for certain neurological and cardiac conditions.
